Finding Humor in Fundraising

But has anyone else found themselves laughing in the middle of a fundraising event? I was at our church’s bake sale last week, and when our pastor tried to bake gluten-free cookies for the first time, it turned into a comedy show! He accidentally mixed up salt with sugar. The look on everyone’s faces was priceless, and it reminded me how important it’s to find joy even in our mission-driven work. How do you all keep the spirit light during fundraising?

And i totally get it! Humor can really lighten the mood during fundraising. At our last silent auction, we had a bidding war over a handmade quilt that ended in hysterical laughter when someone accidentally raised their paddle instead of their drink.

I’ve been in a few fundraising events where laughter turned into a great icebreaker — like this one time, someone accidentally raised their paddle instead of their drink — everyone burst out laughing! It really reminded us all that sometimes the mishaps make the experience even more memorable. Have you had any other funny moments like that?

It’s so true! I remember at our last fundraiser, someone tried to sell cookies and ended up with more batter on the floor than in the oven. Finding those moments of joy, like the pastor’s salt-sugar mix-up, is what makes fundraising worthwhile.
